A young pacer made his debut today and had a point to prove. There were no big headlines before Sakib Hussain stepped onto the field. It was just a quiet moment waiting to happen.
In Match 21 of IPL 2026 against the Rajasthan Royals, Sakib Hussain made an impressive IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He took 4 wickets for just 24 runs in his complete spell
The 21-year-old was consistently hitting the 140 kmph mark. Sakib got the early and crucial wicket of opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Later, he came back to remove Donovan Ferreira, who was looking dangerous after scoring 69 off just 44 balls. Sakib then took out Jofra Archer and finished his spell with Ravi Bishnoi.
The match had already turned wild when Praful Hinge took 3 crucial wickets in his first over. This historic opening over reduced Rajasthan to a shocking 9/5. Sakib came into the attack after this early damage was done, helping SRH secure a massive 57-run victory.
SRH bowling had struggled badly earlier in the season. They had managed only 1 win in their first 4 matches. Sakib was sadly ignored and kept on the bench during those poor games. Replacing Harshal Patel in the playing XI today, he made an immediate impact, and now the SRH pace attack looks balanced.
Such an exceptional debut performance makes you wonder about the person holding the center stage. Who exactly is this young pacer, and what did it really take for him to reach this big stage?

The Road of Toughness to the Big League
Sakib was born on December 14, 2004, in Gopalganj, Bihar. He comes from a very poor farming family living in Dargah Mohalla. His father, Ali Ahmed Hussain, suffered a bad knee injury that forced him to stop working. This pushed the household into financial trouble. Young Sakib started playing cricket with a simple tennis ball on his father’s small farm.
Things were so tight that his mother had to sell her own jewelry just to buy him cricket shoes. Relatives often talked about the family’s constant money worries. To help his family survive, Sakib played local tennis-ball tournaments. He earned in small amounts like ₹500 to ₹1000 per match.
He made his T20 debut for Bihar at just 17 years old in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his 2nd game, he took 4 wickets for just 20 runs. He later picked up his maiden Ranji Trophy 5-wicket haul.
His IPL journey was full of ups and downs. Kolkata Knight Riders scouts noticed his pace and bought him for ₹20 lakh in 2024. However, he did not get a single game that season and was released. In 2025, no team picked him in the auction. Finally, in the 2026 mini-auction, SRH bought him at his base price of ₹30 lakh.
SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron played a huge role behind the scenes. Sakib clearly stated, “Varun Aaron told me to get ready and that I have to do well and move ahead by working hard.” It was these exact slower variations that won him the game today.
Sakib went from practicing barefoot in a rural Bihar village to dominating the bright IPL stage. As the SRH bowling lineup looks stronger with him in the team, fans are left highly excited. This might just be the start of Bihar’s next big fast-bowling star.
